SUMMARY:Water Quality Monitoring for Better Water Management: Training Course – Pretoria
DESCRIPTION:Carin Bosman (CBSS) and Nelda Smith (Pretoria University),  in association with the Water Institute of South Africa (WISA) ( http://wisa.org.za/ ), have developed a new Training Course in Water Quality Monitoring and Management.\nWe will be presenting it for the second time from 2 – 4 June 2026, in Pretoria, Gauteng Province.\nWater Quality Monitoring is essential to ensure Good Water Governance, and the Course therefore addresses the basics of water quality monitoring as described in the course description ( https://cbss.co.za/water-quality-monitoring-training-course/ ), including:\n\nthe basic sciences (hydrology, geology, and chemistry) of surface and groundwater resources;\nthe design of a water quality monitoring programme, including monitoring locations, frequencies, and the selection of water quality monitoring variables; ;\nthe importance of field data collection;\nthe setting of limit values for various types of water resources;\nthe interpretation of water quality monitoring results;\nthe visualisation of water quality monitoring results;\ncommunication of water quality monitoring results to non-expert stakeholders, etc.\n\nAn interactive practical session will be conducted as part of the course, during which attendees will take water samples, deliver them to the laboratory, receive the results, and interpret the results in a group setting.\nAn Assessment will be conducted of delegates’ level of learning during the course, and a Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to successful learners upon conclusion of the course, which can be used to claim THREE (3) CPD-points from WISA, SACNASP and ECSA.\nA minimum number of twelve attendees are required for the course to proceed, and a maximum number of 25 delegates can be accommodated.
